3、rm 20-F”in our Annual Report for 2003.Form 20-F isrequired by the Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC)in the United States for companies like ASML,a foreignprivate issuer on the NASDAQ stock market.And so,this years Annual Report looks different.But nowadays,in the context of corporate governance
4、 and financial accountability,ASML believes such a changein presenting the Companys information is better forshareholders.In 2002,for example,the Company reported three separatesets of annual financial statements.One report was basedon accounting principles generally accepted in the United States kn
5、own as U.S.GAAP.Another statement was for Dutch statutory purposes based on accountingprinciples generally accepted in the Netherlands known asDutch GAAP.Finally,the Company filed a third statementusing Form 20-F based on U.S.GAAP.For 2003,we have simplified our reporting into two sets of financial
