3、 to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.This conclusion was drawn in the lat-est energy scenarios of international organ-isations,such as the International Energy Agency,IEA and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,IPCC.Also the national energy and climate strategy confirms the im-portant
4、role of nuclear energy in Finland.The nuclear sector has numerous parallel activities in Finland where VTT has present-ly on-going projects for lifetime extension,construction and planning of nuclear power plants,as well as construction of the deep geological repository.VTT is carrying out the first
5、 national decommissioning project for its research reactor,and VTT has just updated its research facilities for hot materials,ra-diochemistry and waste management re-search,investments in total of 50 M for the Centre of Nuclear Safety.Recent results of selected and diverse nu-clear research activiti
6、es within VTT have been summarised in this publication.The views and conclusions in this book are those of VTT and do not necessarily coincide with those of the collaborators,funding organizations or customers.These research results have been obtained in separate cooperative projects that are part o
