2、n raising the alarm.The Reading Agencys 20241 report into adult reading habits painted an equally troubling picture,revealing that only half of UK adults now read regularly for pleasure and that those aged 16 to 34 are the least likely to do so.Similar issues have been reported in the US,with studie

3、s?nding marked declines in daily reading over the last 20 years2.The?ndings must also be seen in a global context.The latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study(PIRLS)revealed worrying trends in reading enjoyment among 10-year-olds,with both England and Northern Ireland falling below th

4、e international average.In these nations,around 1 in 4 children(24%in England and 25%in Northern Ireland)reported that they did not enjoy reading compared with just 1 in 5(18%)globally3.Together,these?ndings point to a broad and urgent challenge:a steady erosion of reading enjoyment across generatio
