2、ional trade volume of the country.Increasing trade activities and private participation in portinfrastructure are set to support port infrastructure activity in India.India currently has 12 major ports,and under the National Perspective Plan for Sagarmala,six new mega ports are planned for developme
3、nt.In theInterim Budget 2024-25,Rs.700 crore(US$81.9 million)has been allocated to support the Sagarmala programme.From 2014 to 2025,Indias port capacity(Major and non-major ports)almost doubled to 2,762 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum(MMTPA),while cargohandling increased to 1,594 MMT.During FY25,al
4、l key ports in India handled 853.56 million tonnes(MT)of cargo traffic compared to 819 MMT handled during FY24.During FY26(April-October),total Cargo handled by major ports was 513.80 MMT with overseas cargo and coastal cargo accounting for 77.30%and22.70%,respectively.In Union Budget 2024-25,the to
5、tal allocation for the Ministry of Shipping was Rs.2,345.45 crore(US$281.23 million).On 19 June 2024,the Government of India approved the establishment of a Major Port at Vadhavan,Maharashtra,with an estimated cost of Rs.76,220 crore(US$9.14 billion),aiming to enhance EXIM trade capacity and accommo
